COR Houston has no paid staff; volunteers manage all of our purchasing, deliveries, bookkeeping, and other activities.

Kay Wasden
Executive Director & School LiaisonKay started COR Houston after seeing the enormous need for food, clothing, and hygiene items first-hand at an HISD middle school close to her home. During her career as a pianist and accompanist, Kay taught at Henderson State University, the St. Louis Conservatory and Schools for the Arts, and Rice University. She was an active volunteer at her children’s schools in Houston, New Orleans, and Calgary. Her experiences in education and volunteering taught her that sometimes a seemingly small amount of assistance can make a huge difference, and that is one of the reasons she loves volunteering for COR.

Kathleen Holt
School LiaisonKathleen moved to Houston 23 years ago from the Northeast, and her three children attended HISD schools. Having worked in Public Finance in Washington, DC and New York City, Kathleen is happy putting her talents to use with COR in Houston. In addition to volunteering at various local nonprofits, she served in many capacities at her childrens’ schools over the years, eventually becoming PTO President at Lamar High School. Her favorite jobs were probably her first two, when she worked at two different libraries during high school and college. These jobs turned her into an avid reader and a passionate advocate for promoting the love of reading in school age children.

Nancy Hosman
School LiaisonA New Orleans native, Nancy saw the giving spirit of Houston first hand when many of her extended family members, displaced by Hurricane Katrina, moved to Houston temporarily and attended various Houston schools. Together with her husband and four children, Nancy had stints in various oil and gas cities, including Aberdeen, Calgary, and Fort Worth, for about 12 years. She was pleased to come back to Houston 6 years ago and is glad to put her math and organizational skills, honed by her 18 year engineering career at Chevron, to the service of those who need it most: the children at the Title 1 Schools that COR serves.

Lara Powers
School LiaisonLara has been a proud Houston resident for more than 35 years. Her professional career began in strategic planning and business development for high tech start up companies in Houston and Austin. Prior to joining COR she served as Operations Manager for Books Between Kids, a local non-profit that provides books to students at Title I elementary schools in HISD. Lara was active in PTO leadership during the 20 years that her children attended HISD schools. She is proud to be part of COR’s mission, and to continue serving the HISD community.

Anne Hutton
BookkeeperA proud Rice Owl, Anne has had short chapters in other cities, but has always come back to Houston. She worked for some years at Andersen Consulting and the skills she acquired there have been key for Anne in her role of tracking COR’s incoming grants and donations, purchases, and outgoing deliveries to schools. A voracious reader, Anne maintains and annotates an impressive and much sought-after reading list, which dates back 20 years. After shepherding her five children through their educational journeys, which collectively totaled 12 different schools and one year of home schooling, Anne strongly values education and the importance of discerning each student’s different needs.

Edwin Marquez
InternEdwin is a native Houstonian who has lived in the city his entire life. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and is now beginning his first year of graduate school at the University of Houston, where he is pursuing a Master of Social Work with a clinical emphasis. Passionate about education, children, and serving his community, he hopes to become a therapist and make a lasting impact through his work.
